We at our Dojo, teach students of all ages to have a clear mind and body as they learn the art. Students will learn the traditional descipline and respect of the art through hand-to-hand technique. Throughout their study in the art, and as they achieve higher levels, students also learn more about themselves.
Mind…. Body…. Soul….
Miller’s Shotokan helps children and teens deal with peer pressure, gain self-esteem, confidence, control and respect. We have also found that the kids in our school have less discipline issues. It also helps adults with an outlet for stress in today’s world, not to mention exercise and self-defense.
Shotokan is a traditional form of Martial Arts that was founded by Master Gichin Funakoshi, who was born in Shuri Okinawa, Japan. It is a distinct form of Karate that uses a combination of hard blocks, kicks, strikes and punches in a formal pattern of movements, called Katas. We find that Katas are very important to training, most self-defense moves are from Katas.
Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than physically opposing the it head-on. This requires very little strength, as the aikido practitioner leads the attacker’s momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are completed with verious throws or joint locks.
The Lil’ Dragons program was designed specifically for children ages 4-6 years old. In the Lil’ Dragons Program, your child will learn and grow in a process that accommodates their skills and abilities. They will train with other children in their age group and will not be distracted by older classmates.
There is no first strike in karate.
